marvelous feeling, even today!

This was my very favorite book as a child. I remember doing a book report on it in fifth grade. My brothers and sisters spent a rainy Saturday afternoon helping me pore through magazines for items to make the collage part of the project, because they liked the story, too. I owned it for years and read it many, many times. I was not a dancer and childhood medical restrictions prevented me from taking a class, but I lived the ballerina dreams through the world of Samantha and Lizinka. I've never forgotten the characters. Now I'm attemping some very basic ballet training, and find myself thinking about the story quite a bit since I'm really doing it. I just had to have it back. It was nice to see that it was republished in 1990 for yet another generation of young girls with interest in dance and friendsip.

childhood favorite

I remember the exact aisle of the used bookstore I was in when I found this book sometime in my third- or fourth-grade year of school. I read it many, many times as a child (and a dancer!), and have continued to read it about once every couple of years as an adult. As a child, it made me hope that I, too, could become as talented and disciplined a dancer as Samantha (didn't every little girl want to be a dancer??!!); as an adult, it reminds me of the fun I had when I was dancing. If you can find a copy for yourself (or a young dancer in your house!), I highly recommend it.

a childhood favorite

I first read this book 11(!) years ago, when I was an 8-year old dance student. I have held on to my copy over the years and have read it to children while babysitting, and from time to time take it out just to skim through it...it is a beautiful, touching story, though it is a bit dated. I wholly recommend it if you can get your hands on a copy!

I love this book!

I read this book, Samantha on Stage and I loved it. I am not into ballet but I was still interested in reading it. I especially liked the parts about the nutcracker ballet. So far I have read this book 6 times and I still love it. If you are looking for an exciting book this is for you.

THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ

I loved, loved this book. I have nothing to do with ballet and I STILL loved it. It draws you in right from the start, with rivalries, friendship, ballet, and shining stars. I just loved it! Everything is so real and alive.
