This book tells of a story of an asian family in a hostile society. It deals with the feelings of hate, repression, fear and frienship very well. The author's talent for writing from different perspectives of the characters is excellent. It is set in a realisitc , inner-city area and she deals with the issues as though from first hand experience. Those who have experienced racial prejudices will identify with the events and depictions. Those who have not will gain a valuable insight of being the victim. The book handles the issues well is able to add humour too - I had to put the book down to laugh at some of the events, and cry at others.

This is an interesting book that gives a lot to think about. It makes you think about how people from other countries feel, and it tells about how can two cultures can meet and be good friends. It also shows how awful things people can do, to different people.
