In an area that people in Boston, New York, or Los Angeles would have trouble finding on a map, there exists a place that exudes the very essence of the term community. Hidden in the middle of an oil field in Wyoming is a unique area where people look after their own when trouble comes.In the fall of 1984, an event shook the Salt Creek community to its core, only to witness the grit and resilience that made it's high school athletes famous. Every fall, Josh focuses his energies on school work and football. Though this year, his concentration shatters when he learns that his favorite teacher and assistant football coach, Tim Savolt, is missing. He was last seen walking along the banks of Salt Creek that flows through the heart of the treeless and wind-swept area. The missing person report not only comes to a shock to the community, but it hits Josh even more personally. Why? Because he was supposed to accompany Savolt on that fateful day. Driven by his onerous guilt, Josh solicits help from his friends to begin their own search to solve the mystery surrounding Savolt's disappearance. The boys discover clues and share experiences that will continue to haunt them. For some, it alters their life course. Yet, even in tragedy, something miraculous happens to bind area residents into an even closer bond.
