Salassa is a dual novella story. Salassa's Epiphany: It's 1904, and Salassa guesses she's about 16 years old. She has never seen her birth certificate. Her mother and grandmother have both abandoned her, and her beau leaves her at the "Home for Erring Girls." But Salassa makes new friends, Miranda and Paul. They realize her goodness and her ambition. She travels to Bosque County to live at their ranch and to learn new skills. Salassa also discovers faith. Salassa's Faith: In the past, Salassa survived abandonment, orphanages, and an unscrupulous man. She recently celebrated her tenth anniversary to a man she truly loves, but now faces a difficult pregnancy. Salassa could die giving birth. Her first doctor is a bitter eugenicist, pessimistic about her outcome. She and her husband search for the best doctor. Every pain Salassa feels brings fear that she'll lose the baby. She is surrounded by loving, optimistic friends. Most of all, Salassa has faith.
