A collection of images of Christian saints taken from illuminated manuscripts, panel paintings and great works of art. The book includes details of the saints' feast days and information about each saint featured.
Produced by the Department of Special Publications of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA, this little book (Saints: A Book of Days), can make a great Christmas gift, and can serve an ideal introduction to who's who in Christian Sainthood, for Christian youths and others interested in this subject. While no doubt a mere listing of all the Christian Saints would occupy a tome, more than ten times the size of the current work, the compilers of this book are noble enough to enumerate all the short comings that the paucity of space, limits them to, in their modest introduction. The book is thus essentially a one year Gregorian calendar, with each day highlighting the event in the life of a specific Saint, with special emphasis on the Holy Family. Each week's listing is accompanied with a stunning reproduction of an original masterpiece in the various collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If ever one were to justify the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words" this book would do so very admirably. The index is also very well done. All in all a very high quality of printing and reproduction work. Worth its weight in gold.
