This is a beautifully written, refreshing novel written in the bygone era of Hemingway. The backstory of this novel is amazing Close your eyes and imagine for a moment, this author's voice, long before the internet, or social media influencers. Sailor Eyes is a pure literary treasure. Written by Alexander Hackett, circa 1953 as a gentle, affectionate, fictional account of life on the Cape outside Boston, Massachusetts, USA in the 1850s. The original manuscript was typed on an actual typewriter, a manual typewriter, if you can imagine, and first published (2014) in its original form including strikeouts, margin notes, etc., under the title, Sailor Eyes (The Lost Manuscript), published by the Kodel Group, LLC. This is that 'original' manuscript (reformatted) into a 6 x 9" paperback. Not one word was changed. Not one punctuation mark, added. Not one sentence reworked. The Publisher wanted the work to stand on its own merits without modern-day slush pile editors, copy editors, and especially content editors, monkeying around. This is a pristine masterpiece. SUMMARY Sailor Eyes follows the lives of an aristocrat ship builder, his debutante daughter, rugged and brave ship captains, widows, and a young, well-mannered gentleman, who has sailor eyes. Courting story lines are weaved into this charming tale of land, sea, saltly breezes, and wishful, longing hearts. BACKSTORY The unpublished manuscript was passed down for generations and eventually forgotten in the seaman's trunk, stored in an attic for decades, aging with cobwebs and coastal sea breezes, until it arrived without ceremony, at the passing of the late author's wife. The grandson, William Turrell, wished to honor his grandfather's work, who had passed in 1971, by asking a small indie publisher in Oregon, Steve William Laible, The Kodel Group, LLC, to publish the manuscript as was originally intended. Much to the delight of purists, both the original double-spaced manuscript (8.5 x 11") complete with strikeouts and margin notes, etc., and this reformatted 6 x 9" paperback novel, have been published, exactly as the late author indeed, intended. Unfortunately, the original MS had to be scanned, making it impractical as an e-Book. The massive file size is beyond download capacity, at this time. Both, Collectible First Editions.
