Poems about sailing There are many reasons to sail. You might sail for peace and relaxation. You might sail to race and to compete. You might sail to live an alternative lifestyle. You might sail to push yourself. You might sail for adventure and the cool places you wander upon. You might sail to escape life. I am sailing for a combination of all these reasons. You do not sail to get somewhere faster. You can drive, fly, or bicycle from one location faster than you can sail. The weather may hold you in the harbor until the weather improves for sailing. The waterways or not always a straight line especially when you are traveling along the coast unless you are in the ocean sailing a straight course. Your sail power or engines run five to ten knots doing roughly sixty miles per day which does not allow you to go far quickly. You have problems on a sailboat all the time reducing your progress, especially engine issues. I had fuel issues, an electrical fire, a broken radiator cap, and a leaking cutlass bearing.
