He switches identity with a dead American soldier and is forced to give up his beloved diary.After the war the diary finds its way to nine-year-old Tommy Ness, as a war souvenir. Thirteen years later he is determined to uncover the secrets of the diary. He also wants to give the diary to the little girl, who is sitting on her mother's lap in a photo found inside the diary.
