What is Child Protection?Child Protection can be defined as the protection of children from any form of abuses, violence and neglect. It can also be defined as protecting the right of children from exploitation, lack of parental care, lack of basic education, housing and health facilities. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) is responsible for the development of a wide range of policy and service activities for children and young people both directly and indirectly in Ireland while the Child and Family Agency (TUSLA) are responsible for the support of family and also the welfare and protection of children and the children in care through the Child Care Act 1991 as amended. The primary work of TUSLA is to protect the safety and well being of a child.Children must be cared for at all times, they must be protected from harm, abuse and neglects. The welfare and safety of a child is very paramount. Children need to be heard, listen to, love, protected, safe and provided with all basic needs of life.
