The book takes the reader on an informative journey through the sites and buildings of Egypt, from the time of the first dynasty. It is well served with an introduction, a chronology, geographic description and a map. A major part of the book is dedicated to the temples and temple architecture of Luxor, Satet, Karnak, Abydos, mortuary temples, the temples of Hathor, Dendera, Hatshepsut and the Ramesseum. Nubian temples like those of Abu Simbel, Wadi es-Sebua and Amada are also covered. Alexandria, Tanis and the rest of the Delta are also discussed. What makes the book really interesting is its coverage of the remote oases like Siwa, Kharga, Dakhla and Farafra, as well as the Fayoum. Although directed at the general reader, the work is quite encyclopaedic in scope, making it an ideal reference guide. With its 200 full color photographs and helpful index, it is an enjoyable read.
