Takes Contact Studies to a New Level

I've been a fan of the work of Dr. John Mack for many years and especially with *Passport to the Cosmos* felt he was at the leading edge of contact research -- but Janet Colli's *Sacred Encounters* picks up where Mack left off and takes it to a whole new level. I honestly think this is one of those books that's so far ahead of it's time, its value won't be recognized for another 30, 50 years. Kudos to the readers who are here with Dr. Colli in the first wave!

Expansion of Consciousness

Colli's focus on consciousness opens up the subject of "alien encounters" to a broader interpretation and a wider audience. I found myself drawn in by her clinical approach, which deftly describes her clients' anomalous experiences, the impact on their lives, their subsequent personal growth and expansion of consciousness. She challenged me to stretch beyond consensual beliefs and wonder, "What if this were true. What would it mean about the nature of reality?" We usually interpret anomalous phenomena through the lens of our belief systems and preconceptions, but what if the universe is more complex than we've ever dared to imagine? Linda Jean Shepherd, Ph.D., author of Lifting the Veil: The Feminine Face of Science.

Beyond the usual UFO literature

I have read a lot of ET / UFO related books and I would have to put this close to the top. In my own mind there is a progression in so-called UFO literature. At the base would be the many older books dealing with so called nuts and bolts UFO sightings that have value convincing skeptics that UFOs are real. At the apex, I would place books dealing with wisdom of star beings or their part in consciousness transformation. Sacred Encounters deals extensively with consciousness transformation in the lives of contactees that Dr. Colli worked with. As their stories unfold we see the initial extreme fear eventually replaced by love and a feeling of family or community toward the ET beings they are interacting with. The story of Joy Gilbert (4 chapters), tells of her spiritual beginnings with transcendental meditation. From there she moves on to a Tibetan Lama who further leads her along the pathway to enlightenment. Joy denies her early abduction experiences but later learns she has to explore and accept them. For me her story was the crown jewel of the book because it tied together many elements I also have an interest in - meditation, Tibetan wisdom, and enlightenment. Her journey culminates as her ET family, a race of higher beings, administers the final awakening during an "abduction", telling her It's Time to Remember. The veil of forgetfulness slips away, her ego is shattered, and she slips into full Unity Consciousness. The author further explores the star visitor phenomena in terms of the Vedic literature of the East and gives many first hand accounts of realization experiences. Finally the book examines the social forces that are hindering our awareness expansion and how our awakening might proceed. There are a few parts near the beginning that bogged down for me as the author considers and eliminates psychological states and theories that could explain contactee experiences as hallucinations, delusions, etc, but I recognize the value in this for skeptical readers. Overall, I enjoy books that concentrate on the message or impact of ET contact. I would also recommend Talking to Extraterrestrials by Lisette Larkins or Dr. Huntley's ETs and Aliens (Who are they? and Why are they here?). Another is Dr. Boylan's Close Extraterrestrial Encounters - Positive Experiences with Mysterious Visitors - a very down to earth, no nonsense book that also presents their wisdom as given to contactees. I highly recommend Sacred Encounters to anyone who wants to go beyond the usual sightings and abduction literature and tie the topic into metaphysical realms of thought.

"Sacred Encounters" masters spiritual side of encounters

I have just finished reading Dr. Janet Colli's arresting book, "Sacred Encounters: Spiritual Awakenings During Close Encounters." This book chronicles the mental voyages of a husband and wife psychologist team exploring the world of Star Visitor encounters. Not only does Janet provide rich in-depth details about experiencers' contacts, she takes the realm of encounters research deep into an area not as well explored previously: the spiritual effects of contact with the Star Visitors. Dr. Janet Colli's beginning process reminds me of my own earlier steps of placing the encounter phenomenon against the template of clinical psychology, and trying to rule out alternative explanations based on one or other mental aberration. And as I had, Janet and her husband Thomas one-by-one rule out the typical alternative diagnoses, which do not fit the real experiences which are going on. But the most important contribution of this book is its chronicling the gradual spiritual growth of the experiencers studied, how they are prompted to move from meditation to out-of-body experiences to approaching enlightenment. An interesting aspect of this book is its thorough comparison of the experiencer's journey with the spiritual path of the Eastern spiritual traditions of Buddhism and Hinduism. Enlightening perspectives emerge, which enrich our understanding of the high spiritual purpose of Star Visitor contacts. Dr. Janet Colli has indeed made a solid contribution to the literature on experiencers of Star Visitor contacts and the growthful repercussions in their lives. "Sacred Encounters." [...]

My encounter with "Sacred Encounters"

"Sacred Encounters is a fascinating read. Dr.Colli's thought provoking narrative is not only informative but amusing as well. Belief in aliens is not necessary to appreciate and enjoy this book. But if you do, it is a must read. Josephine Evans, MSW
