A Joy to Read

ANNE'S NOVEL ARRIVES - an EPISTOLARY REVIEW last night i was coming in from the supermarket pushing a cart of nectarines & carrots & enough toilet paper to last for months (i'm going away & my son is here) & stopped at mailbox to pick up mail. we have small boxes in lobby. it was FULL! fortunately there was a woman and her big son nearby. I asked if he had strong hands. he pulled & squeezed and wiggled till he finally pulled out a very very fat package. when i unrolled it it was YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! such excitement i couldn't wait to get into my bedroom to read it. can you imagine!!!!! an actual NOVEL!!! to read in bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't know how long it has been since i could cuddle up with a novel that i truly couldn't wait to read & such a pretty & sweet cover. it just is the essence of the love between the real life anne & ruthie, haiku helen and annaleh... i had no bed to lie on... just a lumpy mattress covered with unpaid taxes, unread mail, school stuff, clothes that i can't put away cause there's no drawer space... the odd bag or box i was motivated!!!!! i scooped and piled and moved stuff around till there was a bit of clean sheet & a bolster & a pillow for me to lie on. your Novel gave me the oooomph to make my bed habitable:) how i loved reading it... the first chapter whetted my appetite for the love story to unfold... then it turned into weather & things... i was so relieved. i thought it was going to be a Perfectly Crafted Novel but it was actually real writing by real Anne... whew! plenty of time to hmmm, and wonder and marvel at life while writing the novel. and then that old love of Ruthie's appears... pretty soon too, just while she is falling in love with the new love. & the old love is in Egypt!!!! and the new love is a skinny Brit with bad teeth... how delightful:) & the father/husband love lives in Queens in the family condo & the newyorkers are all far away. what adventure! what surprises! NEW LOVE, old love, in the middle love. your move to Tucscon is still one of the great treks of the 20th century. & the magic is how beautifully it worked out especially when you are in the backyard with the mesquite trees freshing up the doggie comforters. how funny. i just donated my comforter, my very favorite, to my friend's doggie in brooklyn:) i used that comforter to keep me warm in cold Colorado nights. it used to be my brother's & he left it in colorado for me when he went back to Palo Alto & i moved to Colorado to take care of our Dad. it has been washed a zillion times and it had no stuffing left in. i saw a dear old friend recently who has a houseful of dogs & cats & we met in downtown brooklyn & we made the comforter transfer from car to car!!! yay. now her dogs and furry people will be cozy in the winter. i should go... now. i dog-eared a lot of pages that i wanted to tell you were sheer genius. but am t

I loved this book

This is a beautiful book. It is about change.Change is regeneration says the author and she really demonstrates it in a funny and profound way.The present is there in the expansive desert of Tucson Arizona. The people are funny alive and real. The little things that happen are really very big.Everything connects to the wonderful past of living in a small tenement apartment on the lower east side.Clarity and stability are to be found in the depths of the local swimming pool. This is a funny wise and hopeful book.Yes it is true amazingly enough as the title says after many many years Ruthie has a new love, but that is only the beginning....

Sweetness

Your book arrived and really fast too. It is beautiful. Your portrait on the from is great. I have read a couple chapters and it is like you are sitting in the room with me. I love Anne's world. I would love to sit in her kitchen and chit chat over a cup of tea with the cat purring in the window sill. In a world of misguided people shouting nastiness at health care forums, it is a relief to step into this book. Not a novel in the classic sense...open anywhere and read. Ahhhh.
