A Beautiful and Interesting Book

This is a beautiful book both inside and out. The book is dedicated to the memory of Professor Koroton by her students and colleagues. Koroton was Assistant Professor of the Russian Language and Literature and was the first woman in Dartmouth's history to atain Professorial rank. She came to the united States and Dartmouth in 1950 via germany after her escape from her native Russia. The book begins with several chapters on Professor Koroton's Legacy at Dartmouth and "a life to remember". There are numerous pages of photographs. "The Russian Proverb" is the last chapter before the last 100 pages are each filled with a singe proverb written in both English and Russian and accompanied by a beautiful illustration print of Russian folk art that describes the proverb. These prints are very colorful and beautiful. Each proverb is also explained in one sentence. Some examples of these Russian proverbs are: "As the call, so the echo."---As you sow, so shall you reap. "Bread with water is better than a pie with trouble"---It's better to be poor but at peace than rich and in trouble. "He who live with wolves, will howl like a wolf."--- If you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas. This book is well worth the cost for the stunning ~ 100 Russian folk art illustrations alone. It's a beautiful book. Underneath the colorful dustjacket are boards covered in rich dark red cloth with beautiful gol writing. It's a book meant to keep and share.
