"Russian Archive" - a monthly historical and literary magazine, published in Moscow from 1863 to 1917. The founder and long years was the editor of the journal PI Bartenev - historian archaeographer, bibliographer. The magazine called "tableau of the past" because it contains mostly unpublished memoirs of publication, epistolary, literary and institutional documentary materials covering the cultural and political history of Russia in the XVIII and XIX centuries. By the number of published sources "Russian Archives" is in first place among Russian historical journals. For half a century, PI Bartenev published the magazine, many managed to write, publish, discover many unknown sources. Service PI Bartenev in the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trips abroad, work in the library Chertkovsky allow the editor to meet with a variety of materials on the history of Russia. An interesting fact is that this PI Bartenev picked historical material for the novel "War and Peace". When the famous Count Mikhail Vorontsov invited PI Bartenev publish Vorontsov family archives, the historian met with his wife, Elizabeth Ksaverevnoy heard of it a lot of interesting stories about Pushkin. Subsequently, in various magazines, including "Russian archive" articles were published PI Bartenev, devoted to Pushkin, which formed the basis for future research Pushkin scholars, biographers, ethnographers who have studied his work. The magazine published the works of Russian writers and poets VA Zhukovsky Lermontov, Karamzin, Gogol. Among the rare historical documents in the "Russian Archives" were published about the War of 1812 (1890), notes and letters of the Decembrists (in many books "Russian archive" of different years).
