Kathleen Newman is a missionary in a ni-Vanuatu tribe in the South Pacific Ocean. Here, she must deal with the harsh jungle elements, a formerly hostile people, an adopted son, a fellow missionary from her past, and the anointed job of spreading the Gospel. Just when it seems that she has a firm grasp on life, a stranger enters her world.... Ella Levene, a burnt-out Hollywood director whose nightmares plague her, comes to the tribe for a two-month adventure and the two women soon learn their worlds are very different. In a story where God's love is tangible and a leap of faith is life-changing, three people learn a priceless lesson: don't ever believe that life is predictable, because God has an agenda that is far greater than our own...
I could not put this book down! What an incredible adventure and described so well. I became very involved with every character to the point of laughing outloud at times to having to put the book down in order to have a good cry! A very inspiring story. Running Through Deserts should be translated into many languages so the whole world could read and enjoy this wonderful story! Without a doubt, Miss Thornton is a gifted writer!
Inspiration, romance and adventure all in one!

Wow, this was one book that was hard to put down! It's an interesting scenario... in a remote jungle, two women, one a Christian missionary and the other a very worldly but fading movie star find their lives intertwined as they each learn to open their hearts and trust. I found it encouraging and entertaining at the same time...something rather rare today in a good book!
