'Runaway Joe' has at its core the relationship that builds between a young drifter, Joe, and a soon to be freshman Theatre Arts major, Laura, during the summer of 1972. It is also though, a veritable potpourri of love and romance. There's the stories of love Joe hears as he wanders, and there's the melodramatic romance of the eccentric old Broadway star who was Laura's childhood mentor, and also there's the characters of a play that Laura scripts, a play that she and Joe then produce, about four women in France who work in a bread factory shortly after World War II. The list of characters and their relationships goes on in this happy, uplifting tale, yet the story remains true to its core, the story of two very different young people who meet and find something in each other, and themselves.
