A harrowing trio of murder, romance, and power propel the action forward in this story about little Jenny Waring. In a moment of dire crisis, she did something exceptional, and the authorities want to... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I picked up Run Among Thorns expecting nothing more than a typical romantic suspense. I was delighted when I realized I had actually found a hidden gem. The author managed to surpise me with unique twists and two main characters that were refreshing in a genre loaded with sameness. I'm happy to see Jenny's brother, Alan, will be getting his own book as he was intriguing and mysterious in Run Among Thorns.
A Real Winner!

What a pleasant surprise! I had never heard of this author but saw this book at our local library and decided to give it a try. Turns out I couldn't put it down! Great balance of action, intrigue, and romance, and a story that doesn't, as many seem to, get bogged down in too many contrived side stories. Another book by this author, one centering on the brother, is due out soon. I can't wait!
An Impressive Romantic Suspense Debut

Having grown up cutting my reader-teeth on romantic suspense novels by Mary Stewart, I immediately know when I begin reading what will be, for me, a keeper. "Run Among Thorns" opens with grim government agent types reviewing footage of Jenny Waring expertly dispatching her captors during a tense hostage situation. The reader senses the appalling skills exhibited by the young woman have tossed her from the frying pan into the fire when we're introduced to Kier McAllister, a master of interrogation and psychological games of terror. McAllister spirits Jenny out of the country and takes her to a secluded cottage in Scotland, where he plans to use every technique available to him to force Jenny to abandon her cover story. The problem is, Jenny isn't an agent, secret or otherwise. She's a young woman with outstanding survival instincts who learned marksmanship at an early age, but when faced with the hard core McAllister, she's hard-pressed to convince him she isn't a product of special training being primed for military action. When McAllister squares off against his captive in a test of wit and will, he gradually concludes Jenny might be no more than the innocent she claims to be. He begins to suspect the agency who hired him has ulterior motives that have nothing to do with scoring Jenny as a new operative . McAllister, who has always taken pride in his work, must now use every survival trick he knows to keep Jenny alive. Fans of romantic suspense will find this novel satisfying because the story focuses on the building relationship between Jenny and Kier; the special operative/secret government agency theme forms a backdrop, but the story is really about the developing rapport between the two main characters. On the strength of this debut novel, I'm looking forward to the author's next release, "Dangerous Lies."
In a way reminds me of a Ludlum novel

This is a book "where ordinary people do extraordinary things, where they experience wild adventures and face up to risk, temptation and death." This is a direct quote describing the kind of books Ms. Lucia likes to write and this book certainly lived up to this standard. I couldn't put the book down and read it all in one day, staying up way too late for a work night. Buy the book, read and enjoy!
exciting romantic espionage suspense

Jenny Waring is just a regular person until she killed three armed men, the MacGregor brothers and Watson in close combat caught on a CCTV camera. No one knows where the fortitude came from as these were scary looking guys with weapons and she is here on a Visa work placement exchange so the locals do not know her. The Feds need to know just who Jenny is and how she reacted like an experienced professional. They assign Agent Kier McAllister to interrogate and break through the cover of Jenny Waring to find out what her assignment is. Kier is all over the seemingly frightened woman as he harshly interrogates her expecting her to break. Instead his threats of torture and his myriad questions appear to not faze the woman who just stares at him with open eyes. Soon Kier feels she broke him as the accusations she does not voice but are her eyes rip at his stomach. He begins to think of how to get his mark to safety because the guy who replaces him will not care one iota whether he leaves Jenny with damaged organs and broken bones. This is an exciting romantic suspense with the emphasis on just who is Jenny Waring. Readers, the agency and Kier are hooked with "breaking" Jenny (though our motives differ). It is fascinating to watch the cold hardened Kier break instead as he begins to admire and desire his target. When he falls in love, he knows she broke him. Readers will relish this character driven espionage romantic thriller. Harriet Klausner
