Rugby League for Parents: Help shape your young player

By J P Kelly

Are you standing on the touchline every Sunday, wondering how best to support your child without becoming that parent?

Grassroots rugby league is the ultimate arena for building character, resilience, and lifelong friendships. But between freezing Sunday mornings, muddy kits, refereeing controversy, and the pressure of the car ride home, navigating youth sport can feel like a minefield for parents.

The Rugby League Sideline is the definitive, no-nonsense guide for every parent, carer, and supporter driving the grassroots game. Packed with practical advice, emotional wisdom, and battle-tested tips, this book gives you the tools to help your child thrive-both on and off the pitch.

Inside, you'll discover how to:

Master the Car Ride Home: Turn the most crucial 20 minutes of your child's week into a safe, pressure-free sanctuary.

Cheer Without Coaching: Support your young player without causing cognitive overload or conflicting with the coach.

Fuel the Engine: Simple, no-nonsense nutrition and hydration tips that ditch high-caffeine energy drinks for real food.

Handle the Tough Moments: Guide your child through drops in confidence, injury anxiety, and sitting on the substitutes' bench.

Shape Club Culture: Model sideline respect, protect match officials, and build a welcoming community in the clubhouse.

Whether your child is picking up an oval ball for the very first time or pushing through the teenage ranks, this book is your essential companion for the sideline journey.

Make your car ride home driven by love, not analysis-and ensure your child plays the game with freedom, confidence, and joy.
