Rufus and the Thing from Under the Couch

By Dana Kleveland

When Rufus, a lovable and big-hearted Bernese Mountain Dog, notices something mysterious under the couch, his imagination immediately springs to life. What could it be? Rufus can't quite see it, but that doesn't stop his mind from racing with possibilities. As he tries looking from different vantage points, the unknown object transforms in his thoughts into something more magical, more surprising, and sometimes even a little bit silly.

Rufus begins to wonder and readers will too: Could it be a missing flip-flop that vanished days ago? Or perhaps something far more unusual, like unicorn hiding where no one would think to look? Maybe it's something no one has ever discovered before, like and alien or dragon egg. With every new idea, Rufus grows both more curious and more courageous, showing young readers that it's okay to feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty when faced with the unknown.

Rufus and the Thing from Under the Couch invites children to join in the fun, encouraging them to guess, imagine, and laugh alongside Rufus as the story unfolds. Rather than rushing to answers, the story celebrates the joy of wondering and the adventure of letting curiosity lead the way. It gently reminds readers that sometimes the questions are just as important-and as delightful-as the answers.

Filled with vibrant, colorful illustrations and playful rhyming text, this story is designed to capture the attention and imagination of young readers while also creating meaningful moments for the loved ones who read with them. The rhythmic language makes it an engaging and memorable read-aloud experience, perfect for bedtime, classroom story time, or cozy afternoons at home.

At its heart, this charming tale celebrates creativity, bravery, and the magic of not knowing... at least not right away. Rufus and the Thing from Under the Couch is a joyful invitation for curious minds to explore possibilities, share ideas, and ask that timeless, exciting question: "What do you think it is?"
