Brief But Concise Biography

Brief But Concise Biography "Rudolph W. Giuliani: America's Mayor" by Eleanor Fremont. Aladdin Paperbacks, New York, May 2002. The author, Eleanor Fremont, has provided a brief but complete biography of the man who was mayor of New York City during the September 11 2001 attack on this country. She has written about the good and bad of Rudy Giuliani, including his temper, his implied or veiled racism and his tendency to be controversial in many different arenas. The author is not reluctant to present the black sheep in Rudy's life, including some of his relatives who were in underworld activities. His break up with his wife and his relations with his new love are also presented. Interestingly, undoubtedly due to the date of publication, the author does not mention Rudy's friend, Monsignor Alan Placa, was relieved of his priestly duties in 2002 due to accusations of sexual misconduct. Rudy's life is traced from his birth (1944)in Brooklyn up to his being proclaimed "Man Of the Year" in December 2001 by Time magazine. This short biography, only 89 pages long, is in chronological order beginning with his long expected birth, his education (Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn and Manhattan College in the Bronx, both Christian Brothers institutions), and his career climb up the ladder in the legal field. The majority of the book, however, from page 57 to page 87, deals with the attack on the World Trade Center, Giuliani's immediate response to the attack and his continued care of New York City in the aftermath. This is an excellent short summary of an interesting individual's career.
