It's the summer of 2002. Sam is home on break from college, working a part-time job and spending his free nights goofing off with his best friend Charlie when he happens to run into Emma, an old crush from high school. Against all odds, Sam manages not to lodge his foot in his mouth and land the date with her that he's long dreamed of. The date begins well enough-- a night at the bowling alley with a group of friends-- until a deafening noise outside interrupts the fun. Sam and the others rush to the window to see a colossal beast the size of a city block, marching through their town, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. But something about this creature feels a little bit off. Why does it look so...lame?
