Rub iy t are poems of Persian origin that use a four-line stanza. Some of the better known rub iy t were penned by authors such as Omar Khayy m: and were widely celebrated for their philosophic reflections and musings upon life in general, and also life's ultimate meaning.In particular, Omar Khayy m's writings are known in the west via Edward Fitzgerald's wonderful translations. Fitzgerald rewrote Khayy m's original rub iy t in English using the expressive rhymed quatrain, following the pattern AABA.
