Called to serve a 40-year Lutheran mission in the jungle of Brazil, German-American Pastor Albert Lehenbauer documented his travels, hardships, and religious experiences with witty realism. He brought literacy, music, and prosperity to impoverished German-Russian immigrant families. Eventually he married a beautiful young woman in his congregation and started a family. Initially self-published in Germany in 1923, Pastor Lehenbauer's work is presented again by his granddaughter, Ellen Lehenbauer Harris.
