Extremely well-written

Very well-written novel focusing primarily on Uhura, Chekov, and Sulu (something that Graf has done, and done well, in the past). The story has almost a feel of an old western, in spite of fitting seemlessly into the regular Star Trek universe. The characterizations are flawless, the action intense, the suspense and pacing excellent in spite of the fact that, given that the story is set in the time period between the first and second Star Trek movies, we know that the three major characters will all survive. And for a change, Chekov actually gets a romantic angle, which is also handled smoothly and in a very realistic manner. One of the best-written Star Trek stories I've read.

Sulu, Chekov and Uhura Fans Rejoice!

Although I love Kirk, Spock and McCoy, it's nice to see Sulu, Chekov and Uhura get to play major roles in a story. This quality reminds me of another Trek Novel, Uhura's Song. I thoroughly enjoyed Rough Trails, L.A. Graf writes so vividly that you practically feel yourself choking on olivium dust right along with the characters! It would have been nice if Graf had played up the potential love interest for Chekov a bit more, but it was still a good story. I'm sure I'll enjoy reading it again someday.

Great Book, Great Characterization

Finally, after a great many years, They are realeasing Star Trek Novels with good characterization that aren't all about Kirk. This book"s focus is on how Sulu, Chekov, and Uhurah deal with a hostile planet with no support from the Enterprise. While many of the elements in this book are similer to the other books written by L.A. Graf, This one fits in well with the mini-universe that is "New Earth".

LA Graf does it again.

This is a wonderful book. LA Graf continues her long tradition of incredible Star Trek books. In this one, ahe does an especially good job of bringing out Uhura, Chekov, and Sulu and really letting them shine.

New Earth Series continues to Entertain

The Third installment of the 6 book series New Earth continues to entertain. This book takes place entirely on Belle Terre. The stars of this book are Chekov, Sulu, and Uhura. The shuttle that Chekov is on crashes and in the story that follows we see Sulu and Uhura deal with a multitude of problems from technical to dealing with the colonists. We also see Chekov struggling to survive. It is a very good read for fans of those characters.
