Detective Danny Williams is a bleary-eyed insomniac who has been self-medicating and burying his head in his work to avoid facing the death of his wife. Avoiding reality is something which Danny becomes remarkably adept at and 'Rotten Lodge' follows Williams' unexpected transfer from London to a small town in the Lancashire Pennines during the incessant daylight of June. Before they are even settled into their new home, Williams and his young daughter become entangled in a long running feud between a prominent politician and a local businessman which throws them into a world of sexual exploitation, blackmail and corruption and forces Danny to wake up to reality. 'Rotten Lodge' is a contemporary British social novel set against the backdrop of a thriller storyline. The core theme is family and it explores how the class structures interrelate in 2014, depicting social and personal problems faced by real people in modern Britain.
