Rosiel's Letters is an historical compilation of Civil War letters written back and forth between Rosiel David Campbell and his wife Cornelia Christiana Campbell and their children. The letters cover a portion of Rosiel's life from the 1850's to 1890. Rosiel was a great, great grandfather to Nancie Lou Campbell Crowley, who inherited the letters, and her sister Lynnette Alice Campbell Finch, who assembled this book from copies of the letters and additional historical and genealogical records. Often heartwarming and heart rending, the letters reveal the courage and sacrifice of patriotism, of both soldier and family during the strife of war. The endearments and language used so long ago are touching and describe a different time of the struggle to survive, whether on the battlefield or day to day on the home front. The narrative is written as though the author is having a conversation with her great, great grandfather Rosiel, a conversation across the scope of time over a century and a half ago. The author's hope is that Rosiel's descendants will come to know him as a person and appreciate the times in which he lived. In learning about our ancestors we often can take pride in their approach to living, gaining inspiration and strength for our own.
