Rope-Dancer is simply a beautiful piece of art. Fitzgerald has a crushing style all her own, and my words could never do the book justice. She is a master of the "show, don't tell" school of writing. When she writes about falling in love, her characters literally fall--through nettles and over rocks. Each skipped heartbeat is laid out in bone-cracking detail, along with the agonizing climb back to being able to fall in love again. If you have ever read Sylvia Plath, you will love Fitzgerald. Even if you haven't read Plath, you will probably love Fitzgerald. Rope-Dancer can be a difficult book to find, but it is worth the search. And for all you Lit instructors out there, FIND THIS BOOK. It is undeniably Canon-worthy literature. Do not let this book die unrecognized.
