Room for Everyone: The Wood Creatures' Christmas

By: Emily Walls Ray

The recurring theme of this read-along Christmas story is there is "room for everyone" to help others during difficult times. The read along parallel story to the Nativity features woodland creatures gathering on Christmas Eve to support the unexpected labor and delivery of a calf to gentle friend Bessie the cow. The animals, led by Will the whippoorwill, (including Ruby the rabbit, Gray Mouse, Mama Chipmunk and Chippie, and Old Feathers the owl) spend the night in the barn as Bessie faces a difficult labor. Individually they display courage, kindness, and work as a team to alert the farmer who gives Bessie the help she needs. Pen and ink illustrations recall childhood Christmases. The characters revisit the miracle of Jesus's birth. The large print book includes questions for discussion and crafts to create with friends and family during Advent, along with New Testament references.
