The Colosseum was the first battle royale. Caesar was the first influencer. The aqueducts were somebody's Minecraft world that happened to be real. And the anxious feeling that our own world might be ending? Rome felt that too, on a loop, for four hundred years.
Because here is the part nobody mentions. If Rome is still running inside us, then we are somebody's Rome too. Two thousand years from now, when they're posting about whatever replaces us, what will be our marble? Pull up a chair. The next server is already loading.
