A Fascinating Romantic Comedy and a Great Western

As the summary of the plot has already been done wonderfully, I will just add that when I pick up a book by Beth Ciotta, I know I am going to have a great read, and so far she has not disappointed me. Romancing the West with Ciotta's trademark humor, remarkably lovable characters and intriguing plot falls into the category of must-buys. I've read this book in one day and frankly, while I was glad to see Emily and Seth find their happily ever after, I was sad to let them go.

Loved it

The cover of this book drew me to look more closely at it, and after reading the preview, I knew I would enjoy it. I downloaded it and as soon as I was finished, looked for Lasso the Moon. It wasn't for sale in the various ebook stores I shop with, so I came here and immediately found it, ordered it and couldn't wait to read it. It was also very good and I look forward to the next book about Rome. This is a really great series!!

Romancing the West- A Joyfully Recommended Title

Emily McBride is being blackmailed. The preacher's daughter, who now runs a boarding house after the death of her parents, secretly writes dime novels. Now, someone has found out, and they want her money. As the blackmailer depletes her savings, Emily has other fish to fry. She has received two marriage proposals from men she's not interested in, and she's fallen for her male border, who happens to be a "nancy boy." Life is very tough for Emily right now. Seth Wright's first job for the Peacemaker Alliance is to go to California and deliver a marriage proposal to Emily on behalf of Athens Garrett, his boss. Then Athens's sister, Paris, tells Seth of the blackmail and asks him to solve the problem. But when he gets to California, Emily mistakes him for a poet who favors men. Nothing could be further from the truth, but it's a good cover while Seth investigates Emily's problem and tries to help her solve it. As Emily and Seth get closer, his masquerade brings up interesting situations for the preacher's daughter, who figures Seth is the perfect candidate for showing her how some things are done, like kisses that produce, well, hard feelings. I'm ashamed to say this is my first Beth Ciotta novel. But it won't be my last. Full of witty repartee and characters that are larger than life, I was hooked on the first page. The character's antics made me laugh out loud. I feel in love with both Emily and Seth, and rooted for them to realize they were perfect for each other. Emily and Garrett romanced my heart. I can't wait to read the first book in the series and eagerly await the third, to see who comes along to handle the delicious Rome Garrett. entertaining late nineteenth century romance

In 1878 in California, librarian Emily McBride lives a double life as a prim and proper preacher's daughter and as the author of somewhat heated romantic adventures. However, she is somewhat ashamed that she loves writing these tales. That is until someone apparently knows about her clandestine vocation and threatens to expose her. Emily worries how her parents, especially her father will react and even worse, her new friend, a literary poet, who would find her novels distasteful President Hayes established his top secret pet project The Peacemaker Alliance (PMA) to bring law and order to the Wild West. PMA Acting Director Athens Garrett hires lawman Seth Wright to enforce the law by bringing outlaws to justice. However he is stunned and a bit chagrined when his boss assigns him to deliver his proposal to Emily in Napa Valley, and when she accepts bring her to him so he can marry her. Still Seth does the job only to find the bride thinks he is a poet and confesses to him that she is doing some illicit activity. Seth wants to escape this obvious staid lunatic until he finds suitors hounding her. He goes undercover as a dandy poet to insure Emily is safe but also to not ruin her reputation because he is falling in love with the book nut. ROMANCING THE WEST is an entertaining late nineteenth century romance starring two likable seemingly opposites and an eccentric support cast. Emily is a terrific character whose "steamy" novels embarrass her yet she enjoys writing them; those books showcase how far society has changed with the modern day romance novels. Seth is a courageous soul who throughout wonders if becoming a PMA agent is his thing as first the bride escort assignment, then undercover as a poet, and finally falling in love with an author. Fans will enjoy his courtship. Harriet Klausner

A Great Western!

Comments: I don't often to this, but I picked up this book because of the cover. Once I read the summary, I decided it sounded like a good read, and it was! I"m posting the back cover summary because it actually does a great job of describing the book. Now I'm looking forward to reading Lasso the Moon. From the back cover: Emily McBride is in a pickle.
