Mike Williams, thirty years a dutiful, low-budget public defender, received a letter that could mean millions. Just considering grand opportunity couldn't possibly lead to deception, deceit, or... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Great book. I liked it because of the local names and places it evoked. It was also very interesting to read a story like this written by a lawyer--an "inside" guy. If you're interested in true crime and the way the legal system works--buy this book!
Rogues' Gallery Book Review

Rogues' Gallery, by Daniel Eller Published by North Star Press of St. Cloud,MN Inc., 2003 297 pages. $14.95. Rogues' Gallery by St. Cloud, Minnesota author and attorney Daniel Eller was a joy and a pleasure reading. I picked it up because I loved the cover of the book, a single white horse on a black background with red print. I didn't know what to expect when I started to read; but, by the time I was on page10, I was hooked. I couldn't put it down. I found myself looking for bits of time in my work day to go back to reading. I finished it in three days. Rogues' Gallery is a mystery novel set in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A trial in the story takes place in Foley, in the Benton County Courthouse. The book is well-written and exciting, with many twists and turns as the story progresses. There is some sex and violence peppered throughout the novel for those who prefer that, but it is not so graphic that it would be offensive to even the most prudent readers. The story could only have been written by an attorney. The title comes from Williams' "rogues' gallery" of cases as a prosecuting attorney in Benton County. The story begins with a visit by local attorney, Bob Williams, with a high profile attorney in Minneapolis, Spencer Spooks, and moves from that visit to a brutal rape and murder, an alleged suicide, an alleged accidental death, and, a very detailed murder trial. While Williams struggles through his own grief, he simultaneously struggles with the guilt or innocence of his client, an unscrupulous apposing attorney, and an uncompromising judge. Meanwhile Williams and his side-kick, detective, Tony O'Donnell, try to solve the mystery of who the real criminals are. The story is not without emotional impact. How Williams deals with grief, loss, and finally acceptance is wonderfully handled, although again, with more than a few twists and turns in how this is accomplished. The ending is complete shock but not surprise and wonderfully accomplished by author Daniel Eller. My only criticism of this book is that there are a number of other books with the same or nearly the same title, and in the actual structure of the book. There are a number of typos and grammatical errors that acted as speed bumps as I was reading. All in all, well worth the $14.95.
