The well read son of a medical practitioner, Dr John Dulhunty, and the doctor's wife, Jane Dulhunty (n e Smith), he also was one of the wealthiest and most enterprising citizens of the then Colony of New South Wales during the late-Georgian and early-Victorian eras.
