"Robber's Trail" is the fourth Jefferson Birch Western novel by W. W. Lee. I have been reading these little known novels in order and have really enjoyed them. W. W. Lee is best known as mystery writer Wendi Lee. Birch, who is a detective for Tisdale Investigations, is asked to investigate 2 bank robberies in Nevada City and Grass Valley in California. The suspects are the Shirley brothers. The only witness to the Nevada City robbery identified the Shirleys as the robbers. Joe Child, a bank employee was murdered in the robbery. As Birch investigates, he feels that the Nevada City robbery was not the work of the Shirleys because the Shirleys never kill anyone. Birch is smitten with the lovely Lulu Montana who sings in saloons in both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Birch's friend Swede from Grant's Pass ("Rogue's Gold") comes to California to help with the investigation. As in the 3 previous Birch novels, there is a mystery to be solved. "Robber's Trail" is a fine addition to the Jefferson Birch series.
