Casey’s Reflections awakened and recharged my spiritual life

Michael Casey, a Benedictine (Trappist) monk, penetrated the fog and superficiality of my distressed and boring self and woke me up! He knows as much about the human person/condition as any psychologist, but approaches it (me) from the meaning-moral-mystical reality. His clear writing with wisdom, humor, and practicality massaged my soul. What surprised me was that he took each sentence and delved into it word by word, giving history and insight with practical encouragement. “If you want to follow God,” he points out, you need a mentor or a community or a book—because left to ourselves, laziness and inertia take over. He’s right—I, at least, recognize this daily! While I had “The Rule of Benedict” open as I was reading, this book would be a valuable companion to anyone even if they’ve never heard of Benedict.
