An Inspirational Story!

River of Champions is an against-all-odds book of triumph!! Ms. Schofield’s descriptions of the frigid weather in the unforgiving winters of Minnesota will make you want to put on sweater and sip hot chocolate when you curl up with this inspirational and compelling book. You are riveted as you follow this rag-tag group of determined young men as they fight their way to a championship season. You don’t have to be a hockey fan to fall in love with these players and the tenacity that drives them. A great read!!

What it takes to be a champion

This book along with, "Henry Boucha", are great reads for anyone loving hockey and the Minnesota State Hockey tournament. They show the grit and guts it takes to be a champion. The story is packed with lots of details on the big games, and the behind the scenes on the players, who learn some hard lessons along the way. You won't be able to put the book down during the final games. I gave it to my son (a pee wee) to read. The players are not perfect and that provides some talking points, but their determination, commitment, and sacrifice are what shine throughout.

Great book! Try another by Mary

Coming from a high school where hockey was a sought after sport, i really can relate to this book. The MN high school hockey league is one of the best, if not the best, in the nation. Mary protrays the game the way it should be portrayed. I just started another book by her, Star of the North, and it is right up there with River of Champions. Its a great story about Henry Boucha, the late Detroit Red Wing, and his battle through the national hockey league as a minority. Try it, its a great read!

Outstanding

The book, River of Champions , gave me an insight of what it means to be a Prowler hockey player. It made me want to go back to High School and play again. The River of Champions can be very motivational to any hockey player who loves the game .

This book brought back some fond memories. It has special meaning to me, as the story takes place where I grew up and went to school. I still remember going to the games, cheering on the hockey team, and listening to the champion games on the radio like it was yesterday. Something I would pass down to my children with pride.

This is THE best book of its genre you will EVER read!

The book, River of Champions, is one of the best books I've ever read. The author captures the time and place with so much feeling and emotion- you truly care for the characters, and feel like you're at the games cheering the Prowlers on to victory. Wow! Five stars!
