Most teens love music and celebrities, but sixteen year-old Manhattanite Nikki Bellinger is not satisfied with just dreaming about them. She wants more than just her humdrum high school classes and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Nikki Bellinger is not unlike most other teenagers in that she loves music, but she does more than just buy CDs and put up posters of her favorite bands on her wall. Nikki, a high school student in New York City, has started her own business as a music manager. Her newest project is a pop rock group called Long Story Short. Their persistence in contacting her finally catches Nikki's attention, even though they are pretty much unknown at first. But with Nikki's help, the band rises to stardom. Nikki and the rest of the band have some difficult decisions to make. Nikki is just a teenage girl--can she handle being the manager of a major band when there are so many more experienced professionals out there? Or should she let the professionals take over and limit her dealings with the band to dating Ryan, Long Story Short's bass player? RISING STAR is a good story, and a look at something most teenagers have dreamed about at one time or another. It also supposedly mirrors the author, Cari Gelber's, real life experiences, so she knows what she's talking about! This is a fairly well-written and exciting story but contains some awkward dialogue, and the characterization could have been a little better at times. Overall, though, it's an enjoyable and entertaining read! Reviewed by: Jocelyn Pearce

I really liked getting a taste of what it is really like for a teen to manage an upcoming band. The author was realistic and very descriptive. The two romance scenes were cool, too. I was waiting to see if the characters would finally get together or not. If you like hearing about the music business, romance, and rising stars, then you would like this book.
