I'm an amateur boxer and expected this book to be the average run-of-the-mill boxing book with a hero and was very suprised to find that it was more than that. It's a book that delves deep into the background of Collis Phillips, an ex-fighter who came up from being a nobody to becoming a professional boxer. The author tells the story of collis' life and struggles coming up as a black fighter in segregated america in the early 1930s. A great book and a wonderful read.
