SHORT, SWEET & WELL WRITTEN - A MUST FOR READERS OF ALL AGES!

This is a book I'd recommend to anyone of any age. Even though it's only 80 pages long, it's packed with substance. The author captured the essence of growing up on the shores of the Cheasapeake Bay during the Second World War in the 1940's and during post-war years of the early 1950's. It was a time of innocence and simplicity for children...a time which now seems lost forever - but it was also the beginning of a revolutionary period in history of scientific discoveries that dramatically changed everyone's lives. His portrayals those changes, and his adventures with siblings and friends, his family life, and descriptions of a few of his classmates and the elementary school he attended paint a vivid picture of long ago. The author, Dave Brashears, was one of my classmates, and except for the fact that my memories are those of a girl (Heaven Forbid!), many of his experiences as a child could be my own. Even though I've lived a continent away from Maryland most of my adult life and haven't seen Dave since our high school graduation in 1957, I reveled seeing the boy I knew come alive for me once again, and was jubilent to learn that the adventurous child he "was" more than half a century ago still exists in his heart. Reading Dave's book conjured up countless precious memories of my own. It was almost as if we were still sitting in an over-heated elementary classroom, listening with rapt attention as our teacher read "Brer' Rabbit" aloud to us, using a contrived southern accent while her students roared with laughter! "Riding on the Honeysuckle Horse", is a poignant vignette that is for the most part an accurate, enjoyable account of a unique place during an interesting time. It's the story of a little boy that will tug at your heart-strings and make you happy that you read it. What is a "Honeysuckle Horse"? Satisfying your curiosity may be worth more than the price of the book. Happy reading, everybody! Oh, and before I forget to tell you, THANKS FOR TAKING ME HOME AGAIN, DAVE. IT WAS A WONDEROUS, MAGNIFICENT JOURNEY!!! Riding the Honeysuckle HorseRiding the Honeysuckle Horse
