The author gave the history of the outhouse in his original book Rhode Island Outhouses Today. He also repeated it in Rhode Island Outhouses Today II. Therefore, he thought he was done with outhouses. However, people continued to call him and e-mail him of locations of where he could find yet another one. They would stop by his table at events where he would have his books displayed and remark; "Oh! I have an outhouse." He would write down their name, address and phone number and follow up to track it down so he could photograph it and obtain information on it. The greater majority of the outhouses in Rhode Island Outhouses Today III the author would never have located without the help of a lot of people. They told him of outhouses out of site behind houses, even attached to the back of houses that were accessible from inside the house. A few were in barns or at a girl scout camp, a gun club, down a quarter mile dirt driveway or even a three seater at a huge cemetery. Rhode Island Outhouses Today III records more than 130 outhouses to complete over 450 currently in the state at this time in history. No outhouse was bypassed due to its's condition. Sorrowfully, there are more examples of Father Time taking his toll, rotting the ones that unfortunately do not have caretakers watching over them.
