Since the existence of life on other planets is still to be ascertained, it is perilous to make a prediction about the inherent qualities the variants of life may possess. On the contrary the, presence of life on planet Earth for thousands of years in modes and shapes, developed or underdeveloped, has explicitly exposed its intrinsic and inherent values which can be categorized into several specific sections. In respect of humans, these values or distinctive features, mainly ingenuous and sordid, run on parallel lines. The primary cause of concern is that each line baulk their aggressive stance, intrinsic and unbending attitude, and further unshakeable faith in their belief without estimating the devastating effects, especially on human kinds, the supreme leader among the whole range of species on earth. Humans have been endowed with unsolicited intellect but all the major strifes and wars of yore and recent times were the direct result of lack of patience and sense of fairness and the failed attempt to understand and assuage the feeling of others. This sustainability has put the planet and its residents in peril. Beyond the direct effects of the vices and intrigues, the main concern is unrest and instability which have become dominant feature of every society. No conceivable and impeccable methods have been devised so far as to blunt the potential effects of these innate features. Bhagwad Geeta, the widely acclaimed ancient holy book across religious lines, and attributed to hindu philosophy, lay stress on human values and elaborates simply how the life should be perceived and how humans should conduct their life. Its highly respected edicts has still the same relevance as thousand of years before. The geeta elucidates five rudimentary intangibles which are defined as evils, and leave indelible mark on every aspect of life. These are anger, conceit, greed, infatuation, and lust. The evils choreograph the entire life of the human beings as they are ingrained in human instincts making them vulnerable. The Geeta offers quite vividly the true answers to the puzzle and teaches how to lead simple virtuous life and ward off the effects of pervading evils. This is a varied and different subject and here i am lured to accentuated the gravity of the greatest evil among the five, the greed, which has the propensity and unbridled potential to cause unrest in life and havoc in society in unprecedented proportions. The greed causes turbulence in the oasis of mind and allows obfuscation to creep in, thus inviting inextricable evils like nepotism, zealotry and conceit to join. The greed has no marked boundaries, and its players belong to every sphere of life. It consumes lives without a slight inkling as it slips into the mind unknowingly. The book narrates the life of plebian man who befriends the evil and causes inconceivable misery and catastrophe. Rajendra P Mishra
