Revenge : The act of taking revenge; moral compensation for the offended by punishing the offender. To take revenge for an affront. Revenge - and its consequences - have inspired writers for millennia. From Shakespeare (Hamlet) to Dennis Lehane (Mystic River) to Patrick Senécal (Les 7 jours du Talion), revenge has been explored in all its forms. The theme of restorative punishment abounds in cinema, serving as a catharsis for our own desire to strike back (Taken, The Equalizer, John Wick etc.). The desire for blind retaliation - and the violence it inspires - has also been brilliantly portrayed in popular literature and film (The 7 Days of Retaliation / Mystic River). In this first mini-collection, I explore three facets of revenge in three separate stories: a gory thriller, a fantastic tale and a psychological thriller.
