The year is 1934 and drug-addicted Pedro Montoya thinks he is the reincarnation of Montezuma. With this conviction, he sets out to reverse the course of Mexican history. Believing his sister is Marina, the Indian princess who bore the illegitimate son of the Spanish conquerer Cort s, Pedro imprisons her and her lover who he thinks is Cort s and threatens to kill them if they don't "re-conceive" their son Mart n. He is convinced that Mart n, sided by the war god Huitzilopochtli, will annihilate the Spaniards this time. This bizarre fantasy of suspense, youthful love, and history is set in the American Southwest, where enchantment and sensuality often prove to be reality.
