Taking a strategic perspective, this text covers developments in retailing, and reflects the changing job market with the centralization of the buying function and limited jobs for buyers. Topics covered include category management, international sourcing decisions, activity-based costing, quick response inventory systems and data-based retailing. There is a new chapter on electronic retailing and location, and examples include international, service retailers and small/independent retailers.

Excellent reference, great cases, course textbok

This is an excellent reference book for retail management. It covers most issues, the classic situations and the current ones. It is a must-read for your store manager. We give this as a gift to every new director and follow up on their book feedback. It has great study cases and it would already be worth only for those. It is a little heavy as it is a course textbook, therefore it is easiest to read as a reference for every subject as needed. Final comment: Do not look anywhere else, this is the book you need! Walter

Basic introduction with a few bright spots

This book serves as a basic introduction to retail, though it often feels like "baby talk". It basically describes, without much analysis, the types of policies retailers adopt in several areas including merchandising, inventory management, ordering, HR, finance, store layout, etc. Good as a reference to what others are doing, but not at the cutting edge of retail.

A realistic review of Retailing....

RMgmt is a great book with valuable case studies from people with REAL experience. From concept to info systems, the book helps the reader really understand the critical areas of a retail business and the virtal measures
