Resurrection of the flesh and resurrection of the dead

For Tertullian, the link between Creation and eschatology is the central affirmation of Revelation and, consequently, one of the most insistent points in the theological battle of faith. In a context where the Church was a minority and persecuted, and where contempt for Creation, denial of the reality of the Incarnation and Gnostic belief in a purely spiritual salvation were rife within the Church, theology was in a state of emergency. The De resurrectione carnis (or De resurrectione mortuorum), "a unique masterpiece in the history of theology" (J r me Alexandre), was an effective response to Marcion and his followers.What defies the wisdom of men, and is therefore only a matter of faith, is the unheard-of act of God in creating flesh, the "madness" of this God who accepts to become incarnate and die on a cross, and finally the senseless love he has for man to the point of resurrecting his flesh.
