Evil to the core.

This is a good mixture of formula movies. It has elements of a game with the same name, but it does not compromise the fun by trying to stay inbounds with the game. It mostly reminds me of “The Andromeda Strain” (1971) with a dash of “The Omega Man” (1971) tossed in. The movie starts out with Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, displaying her birthday suit. Then, after the initial shock, we settle down to the story of what looks like a weird group of special forces, especially forcing her into a strange world full of scary things. There is plenty of action, and as Alice regains her memory, we find out if she is a goody or a baddie. In the meantime, that is plenty of evil present. We get a lot of biting humor and plenty of action. The only distraction is the background music, but you can turn off the sound and read the subtitles. This may be worth a second watch to find clues that you did not notice the first time around.
