When private detective Penny Mitchell's latest case takes her back to the last place on earth she wants to go, she must make a choice-continue running from her past, leaving Last Chance County for good, or stay and ensure that her sister and her kids are safe. Even if that means running into her ex. Rescue firefighter and notorious playboy Bryce Crawford is supposed to be a different guy now that he's come to faith, but he isn't exactly sure how to do that-especially when the woman who broke his heart comes back to town and they have to work together on a new task force to find the criminals responsible for the recent string of explosions and epidemic of dangerous new weapons on the streets. Together, Penny and Bryce must set aside their past and race against time to uncover the criminals' end game...and stop them before it's too late. Another thrilling installment in the Last Chance Fire and Rescue series.
A second chance romance but also a second chance of faith. Penny and Bryce had a relationship before and then she left town due to a misunderstanding. In the mean time Bryce has given up his wild ways and given his life to Christ. When they meet up again Penny is in danger and the action never stops from there. It seems every time they turn around someone is shooting at them or trying to kill them. The story has lots of action, faith, suspense, romance, and friendship/family elements. If you've read any of the Last Chance books you will recognize some familiar characters.
Starts with a Bang

The story begins with a bang and keeps the action steady until the end. I’m a fan of rough around the edges characters, which are usually the heroes, but in this case it’s the heroine of the story that needs softening. Penny Mitchell is a PI trying to bust a case involving some seriously bad people. She’s smart, tough, and in need of someone to love her. Enter rescue firefighter, Bryce Crawford, a reformed playboy, who wants one more chance to prove to Penny he’s a changed man. The action was believable, and so was the reason that Penny and Bryce broke up. I found that refreshing because some romantic suspense novels actually test the reality possibilities and enter the too fantastic to believe category. The bad guys were villains, and I didn’t know until near the end the identity of the unexpected, dastardly criminal. Aleckson is one of my favorite Sunrise authors and I’ve really liked everything she’s written so far. So, if you’re a fan of the Last Chance series, you’ll enjoy this book. Aleckson did a wonderful job.
