The purposes of this thesis are as follows: (1) To determine the requirements of a visual ground to air marking system for use by ground combat or patrol type units in a counterinsurgency environment. (2) To report the results of an experiment designed to give the answers to the problem above and conducted as a part of the graduate program of the United States Army Command and General Start College. (3) To make recommendations as to a possible way to get workable effective ground to air marking systems in the United States Army inventory.
