Representative Colombian Jazz Melodies (1957-1999)

The birth of jazz in the history of music can be traced back to the United States. Since its origin, it has been one of the styles, within the popular music of the world, which has spread the most in the last hundred years. Thanks to its multiple travels, jazz has been present in most of the countries of the world, and it seems that Colombia has not been the exception. But how can it be corroborated in reality, in the tangible, that jazz in Colombia or Colombian jazz really exists, and if it really exists, since when could such a history be established? This text presents a critical-analytical reflection of several writings on the subject, as well as the cataloguing and analysis of various Colombian jazz tunes from the second half of the 20th century, with a view to establishing the premise that the history of this style in Colombia is defined from different dimensions ranging from the academic to the practical, and that it is the set of these that ends up sustaining its historical value both musically and musicologically.
