The Repatriates Collective--formed by artists from Australia's Pacific North and South and West Africa, Europe and Latin America--explores new perspectives on cultural heritage, demonstrating how art can actively pave the way for restitution of cultural property. Comprising community members and long-standing collaborators, the collective is united by a steadfast political commitment to restitution projects in Australia, Benin, Mexico, Nigeria and Namibia.
Published to accompany the Repatriates Collective's recent exhibition, Tide of Returns, in Venice, this volume gathers voices from across the visual arts, art criticism, history, film studies and curatorial practice. The project pushes against institutional constraints, offering artistic perspectives on the growing movement for widespread restitution.
