Excellent Overview of Midlife Marriage

Cathy and Steve Brody have put on paper a near encyclopedic reference for all the skills one needs and pitfalls one should avoid during the midlife marriage. Most vulnerable to disaster, the midlife marriage sustains the blows of empty nest, mid-life crisis, and general wear and tear of the physical aging process. A must have handbook for anyone wanting to stay vital in a long term relationship. For people who already know their problems and need deeper work, a different text or personal therapy will be helpful. For those who need to spot problem areas or who just need reinforcement, this is the book for you.

As Good As Oprah Said It Was

After watching the Brodys on Oprah, and seeing her plug their book, I figured I'd give it a try. It is terrific! As a woman in midlife, I'm finding it very helpful with my marriage. Our communication has improved, and even our sex life is now more satisfying. Well done Brodys!! Thank You!!

Fifty Years Old and I Still Worry About My Two Children

Finally, a book good enough to always be handy on the coffee table. I find myself opening the book instead of turning on the TV. The ideas are making a difference. Instead of worrying about what might be happening with my two grown, self-supporting children, I'm actively engaged in activities that please me. For example, the childhood dream of singing on stage is now not just a dream. With five different stage productions behind and rehearsals starting for the next, I don't have time to fret.The key seems to be having that book in sight and trying the ideas.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Brody's approach to solving common problems in marriage. I found the book an easy read, with personal stories of the authors and their clients that we all can relate to. The way they explained different stages of marriage and life really hit home, and was very helpful. I recommend it to all of us 'Baby Boomers' who want to keep our marriages strong.

What I especially enjoyed about this book was its practical simplicity. Steve and Cathy Brody keep it simple as they provide illustrations of the many problems we all face as we hit mid-life. They also often use themselves as examples. Like all of us, they too screw-up and don't know all the answers. And this is what makes their book so refreshing. We don't have the learned guru telling us how we should handle our mid-life problems. Rather we have regular, thoughtful people saying to us, "Hey, this is how we do it, or how others we've counselled have done it. So maybe this will help you?" I highly recommend this book. Like my wife and I, I know the reader will often go to its pages for a useful tip on how to deal with a particular difficulty.
